ihack OSX hardware compatibility

There are some consenquences installing hackintsoh on your PC/laptop. in one hand you got that slick fast OS that u can impress certain people and event though u dont get hte real mac u can still show off some of its shiny on the screen while using it. people would ask, is that apple? how did you do that? they'll be impreessed i'll tell you. but then on teh other hand there are "consequences", and liek any tother cheap version u wont get the full expreince, why? the kernell and kext of the OSX does not come is full variant covers of the pc/laptop hardware. thats why to always check your comapitability of the osx woth the hardware taht youre using. you'll have a 80 percent of suceeding the have a ful feature on pc but the laptop only covers about 40-60 % and even for some laptop it just wont work at all.

i would like to point out which is the most crucial hardware status you need to check before intsalling hackitosh.

most disntros does'nt not cover ins the intel graphic accelator. if you dont have a dedicated VGA adapetr then u have small option here, the solution is you can use the iatkos distros. So having a dedicated VGA graphic adapter would be very convinniet.

most wifi kext need to be updated. if yorue wifi istn working afetr you instal aacintos then u need to fond the right version of the kext somewhere in the internet. or you can pick the rigtjh version kext embedded on the installer.

some USB might not work, this is also needed some attention as the wifi kext problem. you need to update you kext form the internet in order to get it to work.

the battery/power management feature inside the OS might nt recognice or read the battery-use. the 3rd party providng the hardware is mainly up for the blame. now the power managemnet also dierctly connected with the sleep/restart feature which is also a problem that need some solution. simply find the kext or you can cosult that to others hackintosh user.

as for the oterh feature from the laptop such as video put, bluetooth, card reader etc has only small possiblity to not getting it to work so dont worry so much. so make sure youre pc/laptop has the katest update on the complitabilty list.

covert .dmg into .ISO

a .dmg is a disc image file used mostly by the the mac and OSX system. Most .dmg consist of application and installer but bassically a .dmg is a file compiler like .zip and .rar its practically same. In order use a .dmg you must have an application that would read such files. in windows u can just drop and drag in in winrar or winzip. but to utilize it you can use a power ISO. to make a hackintosh installer under chameleon you can still use a .dmg in a different harddisk. but to bulit a USB or DVD/CD installer you might want to convert it into ISO first. to conver a .dmg into .ISO all you have to first is get a power ISO. You can still use a .dmg to restore it on a DVD or USB but you for those who have difficulties doing this you can convert it into .iso first. to convert it into iso files open follow the steps
  • Choose "Tools" and then "Convert" (and then this windows shows)
  • Choose the source of .dmg file you want to convert.
  • Set the output file format to iso file.
  • Choose the output file name.
  • Click "OK" and just click away

Problem with wifi and hackintosh

The intel proset wireless is one of the hardware used to connect a laptop through wifi for internet connection. These days internet is one of the reason you live. Putting aside that reason, then there no reason having a PC. Even using a hackintosh there are some insoluble problem with the wifi. The intel pro set wireless comes with the 2200 and 2100 in a form of Mini PCI. (as seen below)

The Intel chipset has some limited compitability with apple software more over the hackintosh. The intel proset wireless Mini PCI chipset are hard to be recognized by the OSX. Must be some coding complication or the vendor didn't get the third part deal. In order to get it to function you need a special kext. There is a community developed installer that you can use by visiting the iwidarwin and download it from there. Some said they get it right and properly functioned but most helplessly have to change the wifi chipset. The most used chipset in exchange of the intel one is the the Atheros chipset, the problem is, that mini PCI wont be so easy to get these days. You can get it form e-bay or amazone for usd 10-20. that's why it is very important to know the chipset of your laptops. The later version of the mini PCI, the PCIe or the half eight its much easier to get. The dell D610 i have will have to use the Mini PCI. Up till this point, i seem to cant get my hands on those atheros mini PCI.

The dell d610 has the mini PCI under its keyboard so in order to swap it with the atheros one, you need to open it up first.

hackintosh installer on USB with windows

Ok enough chit chat, below is the instruction on how you can use a USB flash Disk to make it bootable with an hackintosh installer using "Transmac" in Windows. Some people might find it very frustrating to know that any bootable material used to make a hackintosh installer have to be burned using a mac so this is one of those solution. in these process you'll need:
  1. any dmg of the distros (later converted in .iso)
  2. a 8 Gb flashdisk
  3. a laptop with windows, and
  4. a Transmac software
After downloading your Transmac software, insert the USB in the USB port. Run Transmac and run it as administrator (in window 7). At this point you can see the simple Transmac tool as seen below. Look at the option, as seen below having your flash disk mounted and choose "format disk for mac" choose "HFS+" (extended).

This is a "formatting phase" to get your USB on the readable mac format (HFS+), after a few moment the formatting is done. Still on the option menu, choose "restore with disk image" with its source from the image file. Notice that you must first convert it into a .iso, you can use "power iso". With the .iso ready and the Transmac standby you can just restore it by a click of a button.

Wait until its done. At this point you have an installer inside the USB Flash, for the retail version you still need a copy of Chameleon Bootloader for windows (what is its and its function you read it here). For the Bootloader you can use either another flash disk or burn it on a CD, and after that, voila!! you have a Bootable Hackintosh installer. You can also use a transmac to burn CD/DVD but make sure you use a slow writting speeed so it wont get buffer underrun.

journal06, the result of using the "iwidarwin"

This is what its look like after I continue from the previous post about installing a hackintosh using an iAtkos 5i, the one that I tweak few changes in the "customize" setting and get it work. So I follow the rest of the thread by installing an apps that control the wifi using an iwidarwin and use a copy of PROSet/Wireless 2100 OS X 10.5 SVN latest and install it. as a result this comes up in the status bar near right up corner.

Here is What i cant understand, the generic airport app cannot detect anything (see below left)

And if i use the proset/wireless apps and set it to "set power to OFF" it'll actually detect networks as you can see below.
I dont know what actually happended, and for what ever that is i cant tell whats the problem because after i choose any available network, and click "connect" nothing happens. After quite sometimes all turns to fail when this happens.
Well I ask for counseling and found out that the iwidarwin project is a community project which has ended years ago. It was a complete hopeless project because apple just wont support the intel chipset. I also learn that you can just update or patched a kext to make it work. The only solution to this outcome is that is to change the hardware what a more compatible specs. better get your card ready to buy some second hand stuff from ebay. You might want to find a wifi MINI PCI Atheros chipset. You can read the post about it later.

Journal04, Installing iAtkos 5i on Dell D610

First of all i tried using the OSX 10.6 from leohazard and it resulted a kernel panic. My other option would be using the iAtkos S3 or the iDeneb 10.6.6 (and both still 10.6). It kept me thinking, why waste time on experimenting on the 10.6 why not just downgraded to 10.5 and experiment 10.6 later. So i did, before i made this blog i already experiment on the IPC 10.5.6 which was recommended by a thread in insanelymac (you can check it out here). For my case it resulted also a kernel panic.

There are so many available distros outhere like the IPC, iAtkos and Ideneb. In fututre time I'll try to install using Ideneb but now I am going to install a hackintosh on my dell d610 using an Iatkos 5i.

After restoring it on "disk utility" and patch it with chameleon bootloader using "myhack" (all of those mentioned is using a mac, if you have a window use transmac which you can check it out here) I finally get it done to boot. After some few tries (cause I failed couple of times to install) I figure out that there were some tweaking on the "customize" setting to get it done. With some trial-error effort, this is the list of "customize" menu setting which I finally get it to work (except the wifi, which later i'll discuss it here). If you want, you can also look into it here for some reference but the "customize" menu setting in that site need some changes (which I took some time to understand and made some changes on my own below). Below is the "customize" menu setting I used to get it to work. (the tick mark is as shown in the menu, see pictures)

-iAtkos v5i main system
-Bootloader
-chameleon √ (i use this instead PC EFI V9 as in the thread)
-x86 patches
   -Decypters
      -appledecrypt √
   -SMBIOS drivers
      -SMBIOS enabler
         -SMBIOS-EFI air √
   -Kernel
      -9.5.0 Kernel Voodoo√
    -ACPI
      -x86 ACPI √
    -Disabler.kext √

-Driver
   -VGA
      -ATI
         -HD 2xxx 3xxx √
         -EFI strings for ATI
            -HD3400 √
      -Intel
         -X3100 √
         -EFI strings for Intel √

   -System
      -SATA/IDE
         -Intel SATA √
         -VIAATA √

      -Speedstep
         -Intel speedsetep a √
      -laptop battery √
      -NTFS 3G √
   -Network
      -intel pro/100 √
      -broadcom 440 x √

So there you are, just click "done" and install it. I suggest that you familiarized yourself with the OSX environment and savor every moment to understand before you decide to install apps or anything (putting kext and installing stuffs). The original thread also included a link to the apps for the wifi in "iwidarwin". In my case, it fails and you can see the post I wrote here, you can try it and if it fails too you can experiment by installing with the use of an alternative distros. enjoy!

How to make MS-DOS bootable flash drive

Though mainly the boot disk are used to access a system that doesn't have any OS installed, there are many reason you want to boot from a disk boot. There are those who just having having troubles with their OS. The main reason why we use a boot disk to format our hard disk is to have a clean drive before any OS installation. Below is the step by step instruction to have a flash dish boot disk. The MS-DOS boots from start up using a flash disk drive, to do this you need;
  1. flash dish, a
  2. rufus utility, from here
  3. a bootdisk iso (i'll be using a Windows 98 bootdisk, win98_bootdisk.iso)

After you download everything you need all you have to do is open rufus utility. click "the disk icon" to the right of "Create a bootable disk using:", and selected the win98_bootdisk.iso you have downloaded. Click "start" once and then you have a bootdish flash drive.

plug it in, make sure you boot from USB flash disk using the BIOS option. and youre there you just type
"format drive /C:" and there's to it

a hackintosh dictionary

this is kind of a small dictionary that i made from what i experience while doing the hackintosh project, I am sure there must be tons of people who did this kind of things so I am not going to do same, I am gonna do it for  fun only.

EFI

kernel panic
a failed instalation process due incompitabilty, mainly cheap hardware and lack of experience

bootloader
a small directory in the installer used to boot after bios setup. after arranging the boot sequence, the boot loader let you get into the initial instaling process. Myhack, kakewalk and Chameleon is most used bootloader.

.dmg
a mac OSX image file. most apple apps installer is in .dmg format

hackintosh
from hacking and mackintosh, getting ways to get cheap but fast laptop/pc with flashy feature. a way of getting your nerdish title so you look  sophisticated or some kind. getting even with the apple fanboys.

mobo
mother board, is the main structure of your computer hardware with many kinds slots and small portion of IC.

kext
the equivalent of driver in the world that bill gate created.

SSE2
it stands for "streaming SIMD Extensions 2" short for most affordable and sold processor in the market, covers from intel pentium M, Intel atom and Intel core and the AMD K8's and Phenom.

journal03, The leohazard 10.6 with Dell D610

So today i am gonna start to put the USB consist of leohazard 10.6.6 and a boot loader made form Myhack. it took about 7 minute tops. I dont have any preparation, so I am just going to put it the USB port and fire away. It got into a boot screen (which made me very happy)

Then when i click to boot from leohazard it turn into this

well, back to the drawing board. my next attempt would started by be finding a alternative distro like the ideneb or iatkos. other solution might also downgrading the OSX to 10.5 leopard. thanks for reading, you can leave a comment below.

talkies02, hackintosh .iso and installer

After you have downloaded your .iso from the internet you have to make a bootable DVD out of them. Now the trick is that the burned DVD must have a boot loader so the PC would recognize it and boot form there. And then there's a catch to it, ready for it, wait for it.....you have to burn the bootable DVD on a mac. Yes, I know that completely confusing because the reason you dont have a mac and you're doing these because you cheap ass could afford one, and the bootable DVD you needed to install a hackintosh have to be burnerd from a Mac, thus links to an infnity loop of thinking fallacy. Its okay, we can still get out of it, i know you're tinkering litte minds has already thought of a solution right? if you dont then hackintosh its going to be more tricky then you thought.

Yes, one of the solution is you could either buy one, asked a friend who owns a mac and asked him to burn the .iso, or you could burn it on PC with some special software. Now the easy solution would be to to use flash disk and boot it form there (you can click here directly so wont to read the rubbish below and go straight ahead to make flash-disk boot-loader) but its nothing wrong having a burned DVD with distros .iso because it'll come handy (i'll tell you why later). So, at this point if you choose option number 3 which is using the PC to burn you'll etither need an "ultraiso", "poweriso", or a "transmac" get it from torrents or wherever, and burned with them.

Before you do that, please remember you still need a bootloader so you can boot it from there in order to install it. Yes i know, its getting more confusing but fear none because you can use either a Chameleon, myhack or cakewalk. Burn it with a CD or you can use a Flashdisk and direct them to the DVD with the installer.

okay here's the explaination, hackintosh is not that compilcated really just get a good hardware spec that money can buy and install an OSX on it. The apple people has already anoounce that OSX can be install on non-apple product anyway, and then we have your tyical PC with "i dont know what inside of it, but I want to experiment more, impress some nerdy girls, take over the world and live happily ever after" now that! what make it more diffcult, laptops will come more difficult because they have customed mother boards.

now the retail version of OSX that you can buy or "borrow" from freinds, are installer you can use to hackintosh you PC. what you have to do is just add a bootlader on it and you can install a hackintosh in any PC (not much hacking there?) like i said its not that complicated. the distros in the other does not need a bootloader because most of them have it inside them allready. As for as the burned .iso u can sell them to people who wants to hackintosh their PC for the price of 5 dollar or you can experiment it later, did you know installing hackintosh has become a new form of income? you can get a USD 50 (that about IDR 450K) a pop for installing OSX on PC and i think you should start your own business, I mean come its good money!

journal01, my first attempt to make a hackintosh installer for dell D610

Today i'll be making a hackintosh installer out of a USB flashdisk, i have a mac i'll be using it to make one. Since I am gonna install it on a Dell D610 i'll be just using the 10.6 cause it compatibility with older hardware settings, it'll be the 10.6 snow leopard.
I'll use unibeast form tonymacx86. It was going smooth until a wizard says it fails. I am not gonna tell you why, cause even i dont know what cause it. So this is how it goes, I open the unibeast and after a few "continue" clicks it comes to this screen.

As you can see above it has list of 4 option, after i read it and it comes to mind; "the unibeast doesnt have a leopard or leopard option since i use a 10.6.6". I'll just going to experiment, and pick the first choice. which resulted into this;

Well, i didnt put my hopes high anyway. and so i use "Myhack" instead, and it goes well. It has the 10.6.6 option and just click away.

So i mount the leohazard .iso and "myhack" looks for it automatically and continue to install it, now for some reason the loader screen shows this below.

you can see at the bottom it says 317 MB out if 259 MB 122% which is somehow "feels" wrong, it load kinda slow and it has no sign of working or processing. So i go to "finder" and i look over the storage capacity. Over time, the capacity of the new labeled "myhack OS installdisk" adds up a little, this is a sign its working (horray) and it goes successfully. The bootloader usually comes with every distros except you use the retail installer then you'll be needing one (you can check it out here)

So lesson learned today is you should preferably use "My hack" and you should find a way of finding out if its processing by looking into "finder" next step is i gonna test it on my PC, you see directly here. Thanks for reading, you can leave a comment in comment section below.

journal02

Today is my first attempts to install my hackintosh, and its fails badly why cause it takes only a second to get my self a kernell panic which comes like this.

I am sending this to the boys at the hackintosh HQ, since i am an Indonesian i am sending this to the "hackintosh Indonesia" fanpage at Facebook. I hope they'll give some solution there, they ussually do. What comes my advice is, always have a hackintosh community to help you around or someone who have a familliar idea of what hackintosh is. Talk, share and enjoy.

#ihack 01 hackintosh, the OSX experience

The OSX is basically a graphic user interface that was bulit by the Apple inc for their many variant of product (laptops and desktop) namely the mac family computers, imac and macbook. the first time i get to experience the OSX is from my freind's laptop an MBA (macbook air) it was nice, clean, slick. At the first glance, my "anti fanboys" senses somehow reject some of the great feature it has. One of the most silly and farmost reason why my freind bough an MBA is how you can shake the desktop wallpaper by a "gesture" hands movement. I came up with come-back "so you bought a $1000 dollar machine just to play around??" to think again isn't that what its for? the MBA comes in a very light weight model, weighing just over a kilo. So it always been the price that bothers me.

The OSX is a series of operational system which comes in the denomination of 10, thus X is the roman for ten. the OSX was released in the 1999 started with the "cheetah" (10.0). you can googled it down and you can see a series of the OSX development was then done up until (10.9) known as the maverick. now actually the OSX has a series of a big cat names for their version, the mavericks however only partly sold in the California area. The most famous OSX version is the snow leopard (10.6) and the mountain lion (10.8).

As a non-apple user is kinda unfamiliar with these changes, especially the difference between each and every version of the OSX but what i learn the distintive one is between the "Snow Leopard" and the "Mountain Lion" the snow leopard is one of the key development in the OSX, from the experience point view that most of I got is that it has much more stable and faster ability. Now the the "Snow Leopard" also comes with update version. and latest one is the 10.6.8. i am not recomending to get the latest version but some opinion comes that even that has ups and downs but i will explain later in my next post.

the hackintosh is a slang used to describe an activity of hacking OSX to be then installed in a regular PC which is a non-apple product. the reason why is uncertain, but if asked they ussualy answerd mostly because of the fan-boys war between PC and mac user in the abilyt to conquer comptuer language to then manipulate their nemesis coding system. the firsta attempt was done by the apple fanboys showing how powerfull the apple harware was by installing windows in their mac. as a strike back the most impossible, an OSX installation on PC.

over all, its kinda of a challenge and I am not expecting u guys to install hackintosh, but please experience the OSX first, then u decide. Thanks for reading!

hackintosh resource and Important LINKs

There are so many resources and links to get your .iso and .dmg (installer) from the net. For those who have bad internet connection or finding many broken links or lost links, I suggest to use the torrents. These are the links that is officially directed from distros for their DVD OSX .iso which later you can burn on a DVD or restored on a flash disk (you can follow the insturction of burning DVD here and for flashdish here). Now with the powerful magic of the internet, those torrrent links could be transformed into a regular donwload with the hel of zbig.com all you have to do is copy-paste those torrent link or magnet links and they will do the rest. Down below These are important links to get information to hackintosh your laptops/PC. More up to date hardware specs will have more compatibluty with the hackintosh, more custom or pre ordered specs may have some tricks to get it work.

Talkies01, dell d610 Specification

Before i am going share the dell D610 specs, i want to tell you variant that comes in the dell D610. You actually googled it and the internet will provide with the information you needed .

As you can see in notebookreview.com and cnet.com the Dell D610 comes from a variant processor that range from 2.00 - 2.13 Ghz of clock speed and Memory RAM from 512-2Gb. What I found is that my Dell D610 only comes of 1.60 Ghz and 512Mb of RAM (now upgraded to 1 Gb). The Visual Driver is the ATI X300 with dedicated 64Mb memory, and here is the the bad news it comes with a non apple friendl intel proset 2200 b/g wireless card and a bluetooth. As much as the useless intel wireless, we can still tweak on the PCIMCIA to get the wifi working. I'll be more discussing it later here.

I've search around the internet on how hackintosh would work on these spec and all i found is that D610 is good with snow leopard (10.5). You can actually check the technical spec in apple support here. If you could google "dell d610 hackintosh" you'll get three video from youtube showing their achievement in putting OSX in their dell d610. The picture was taken on july 2013, and made kind of excited!! (there's actually someone who did put a hackintosh on their dell d610, Thank God!)  The videos here is just showing you the end product, they didn't tell you how they did it but the third link did;

You could go directly here and form there he'll told to check it out here. Its a thread consist of step by step to install a hackintosh using a distro called IPC universal 10.5.6. The OSX version that he use on his laptop, an OSX just below the spec of what I am Going to use later (mine which is a leopard, or is it a better idea to follow his steps?). You can read the thread and wonder more on how he did it which is going to take some more time to understand (read it but just leave it there we'll come back to that later).

Some people would install a hackintosh on a PC (which is a better idea) and come up with a better success rate. Use a Gigabyte hardware for a PC and your installment will be flawless.

Now if there is a software tool to see your Laptop/PC hardware compatibility with the hackintosh then it would be very convenient, which there aren't so keep looking, maybe there is one. Dont worry hackintosh covers just most of everything, if it doesnt you just have to patched it, as simple as that.

Talkies00, hello this is my first post #hackintos

Hello, out there!!

This is may journal in the attempts (cause i know its going to take more than just one attempt) to "hackintosh my old laptop" (its a dell d610) I bought it for $150 (an equivalent of 1.5 juta IDR in my currency). I bought it about in the 2010 because my other computer was stolen. Now after a thesis and several good paying jobs I fancied myself and bought an MBA 11' in 2012. Like most other people who hate apple fanboys i bought it second hand from a very rich kid, he sold it to me for 7.8 juta (about $600, i know its crazy right?!) and so I indulge my self in the OSX experience. Guess what, i loved it! its very fast and responsive, come to think of it "why not buying another apple product?". After that, days went away and it kept me thinking again, apple product is just overrated and overpriced. After many recollecting thoughts and calculation, i asked "is there a way to hack it?" So i gather around some information and use my "collective intelligent" I heard about an idea of putting OSX on regular PC through a way of complicated methods (you'll see later why its complicated). So here I am making a journal out of it, just got going and try to hackintosh my dell d610! Like i said this is quite like a journal with interactivity, so feel free to leave a comment or twitter me @amatzach to share your experience or probably just ask question and get stupid answer from me. Enjoy
