ihack OSX hardware compatibility

There are some consenquences installing hackintsoh on your PC/laptop. in one hand you got that slick fast OS that u can impress certain people and event though u dont get hte real mac u can still show off some of its shiny on the screen while using it. people would ask, is that apple? how did you do that? they'll be impreessed i'll tell you. but then on teh other hand there are "consequences", and liek any tother cheap version u wont get the full expreince, why? the kernell and kext of the OSX does not come is full variant covers of the pc/laptop hardware. thats why to always check your comapitability of the osx woth the hardware taht youre using. you'll have a 80 percent of suceeding the have a ful feature on pc but the laptop only covers about 40-60 % and even for some laptop it just wont work at all.

i would like to point out which is the most crucial hardware status you need to check before intsalling hackitosh.

most disntros does'nt not cover ins the intel graphic accelator. if you dont have a dedicated VGA adapetr then u have small option here, the solution is you can use the iatkos distros. So having a dedicated VGA graphic adapter would be very convinniet.

most wifi kext need to be updated. if yorue wifi istn working afetr you instal aacintos then u need to fond the right version of the kext somewhere in the internet. or you can pick the rigtjh version kext embedded on the installer.

some USB might not work, this is also needed some attention as the wifi kext problem. you need to update you kext form the internet in order to get it to work.

the battery/power management feature inside the OS might nt recognice or read the battery-use. the 3rd party providng the hardware is mainly up for the blame. now the power managemnet also dierctly connected with the sleep/restart feature which is also a problem that need some solution. simply find the kext or you can cosult that to others hackintosh user.

as for the oterh feature from the laptop such as video put, bluetooth, card reader etc has only small possiblity to not getting it to work so dont worry so much. so make sure youre pc/laptop has the katest update on the complitabilty list.

covert .dmg into .ISO

a .dmg is a disc image file used mostly by the the mac and OSX system. Most .dmg consist of application and installer but bassically a .dmg is a file compiler like .zip and .rar its practically same. In order use a .dmg you must have an application that would read such files. in windows u can just drop and drag in in winrar or winzip. but to utilize it you can use a power ISO. to make a hackintosh installer under chameleon you can still use a .dmg in a different harddisk. but to bulit a USB or DVD/CD installer you might want to convert it into ISO first. to conver a .dmg into .ISO all you have to first is get a power ISO. You can still use a .dmg to restore it on a DVD or USB but you for those who have difficulties doing this you can convert it into .iso first. to convert it into iso files open follow the steps
  • Choose "Tools" and then "Convert" (and then this windows shows)
  • Choose the source of .dmg file you want to convert.
  • Set the output file format to iso file.
  • Choose the output file name.
  • Click "OK" and just click away

Problem with wifi and hackintosh

The intel proset wireless is one of the hardware used to connect a laptop through wifi for internet connection. These days internet is one of the reason you live. Putting aside that reason, then there no reason having a PC. Even using a hackintosh there are some insoluble problem with the wifi. The intel pro set wireless comes with the 2200 and 2100 in a form of Mini PCI. (as seen below)

The Intel chipset has some limited compitability with apple software more over the hackintosh. The intel proset wireless Mini PCI chipset are hard to be recognized by the OSX. Must be some coding complication or the vendor didn't get the third part deal. In order to get it to function you need a special kext. There is a community developed installer that you can use by visiting the iwidarwin and download it from there. Some said they get it right and properly functioned but most helplessly have to change the wifi chipset. The most used chipset in exchange of the intel one is the the Atheros chipset, the problem is, that mini PCI wont be so easy to get these days. You can get it form e-bay or amazone for usd 10-20. that's why it is very important to know the chipset of your laptops. The later version of the mini PCI, the PCIe or the half eight its much easier to get. The dell D610 i have will have to use the Mini PCI. Up till this point, i seem to cant get my hands on those atheros mini PCI.

The dell d610 has the mini PCI under its keyboard so in order to swap it with the atheros one, you need to open it up first.

hackintosh installer on USB with windows

Ok enough chit chat, below is the instruction on how you can use a USB flash Disk to make it bootable with an hackintosh installer using "Transmac" in Windows. Some people might find it very frustrating to know that any bootable material used to make a hackintosh installer have to be burned using a mac so this is one of those solution. in these process you'll need:
  1. any dmg of the distros (later converted in .iso)
  2. a 8 Gb flashdisk
  3. a laptop with windows, and
  4. a Transmac software
After downloading your Transmac software, insert the USB in the USB port. Run Transmac and run it as administrator (in window 7). At this point you can see the simple Transmac tool as seen below. Look at the option, as seen below having your flash disk mounted and choose "format disk for mac" choose "HFS+" (extended).

This is a "formatting phase" to get your USB on the readable mac format (HFS+), after a few moment the formatting is done. Still on the option menu, choose "restore with disk image" with its source from the image file. Notice that you must first convert it into a .iso, you can use "power iso". With the .iso ready and the Transmac standby you can just restore it by a click of a button.

Wait until its done. At this point you have an installer inside the USB Flash, for the retail version you still need a copy of Chameleon Bootloader for windows (what is its and its function you read it here). For the Bootloader you can use either another flash disk or burn it on a CD, and after that, voila!! you have a Bootable Hackintosh installer. You can also use a transmac to burn CD/DVD but make sure you use a slow writting speeed so it wont get buffer underrun.

journal06, the result of using the "iwidarwin"

This is what its look like after I continue from the previous post about installing a hackintosh using an iAtkos 5i, the one that I tweak few changes in the "customize" setting and get it work. So I follow the rest of the thread by installing an apps that control the wifi using an iwidarwin and use a copy of PROSet/Wireless 2100 OS X 10.5 SVN latest and install it. as a result this comes up in the status bar near right up corner.

Here is What i cant understand, the generic airport app cannot detect anything (see below left)

And if i use the proset/wireless apps and set it to "set power to OFF" it'll actually detect networks as you can see below.
I dont know what actually happended, and for what ever that is i cant tell whats the problem because after i choose any available network, and click "connect" nothing happens. After quite sometimes all turns to fail when this happens.
Well I ask for counseling and found out that the iwidarwin project is a community project which has ended years ago. It was a complete hopeless project because apple just wont support the intel chipset. I also learn that you can just update or patched a kext to make it work. The only solution to this outcome is that is to change the hardware what a more compatible specs. better get your card ready to buy some second hand stuff from ebay. You might want to find a wifi MINI PCI Atheros chipset. You can read the post about it later.

Journal04, Installing iAtkos 5i on Dell D610

First of all i tried using the OSX 10.6 from leohazard and it resulted a kernel panic. My other option would be using the iAtkos S3 or the iDeneb 10.6.6 (and both still 10.6). It kept me thinking, why waste time on experimenting on the 10.6 why not just downgraded to 10.5 and experiment 10.6 later. So i did, before i made this blog i already experiment on the IPC 10.5.6 which was recommended by a thread in insanelymac (you can check it out here). For my case it resulted also a kernel panic.

There are so many available distros outhere like the IPC, iAtkos and Ideneb. In fututre time I'll try to install using Ideneb but now I am going to install a hackintosh on my dell d610 using an Iatkos 5i.

After restoring it on "disk utility" and patch it with chameleon bootloader using "myhack" (all of those mentioned is using a mac, if you have a window use transmac which you can check it out here) I finally get it done to boot. After some few tries (cause I failed couple of times to install) I figure out that there were some tweaking on the "customize" setting to get it done. With some trial-error effort, this is the list of "customize" menu setting which I finally get it to work (except the wifi, which later i'll discuss it here). If you want, you can also look into it here for some reference but the "customize" menu setting in that site need some changes (which I took some time to understand and made some changes on my own below). Below is the "customize" menu setting I used to get it to work. (the tick mark is as shown in the menu, see pictures)

-iAtkos v5i main system
-Bootloader
-chameleon √ (i use this instead PC EFI V9 as in the thread)
-x86 patches
   -Decypters
      -appledecrypt √
   -SMBIOS drivers
      -SMBIOS enabler
         -SMBIOS-EFI air √
   -Kernel
      -9.5.0 Kernel Voodoo√
    -ACPI
      -x86 ACPI √
    -Disabler.kext √

-Driver
   -VGA
      -ATI
         -HD 2xxx 3xxx √
         -EFI strings for ATI
            -HD3400 √
      -Intel
         -X3100 √
         -EFI strings for Intel √

   -System
      -SATA/IDE
         -Intel SATA √
         -VIAATA √

      -Speedstep
         -Intel speedsetep a √
      -laptop battery √
      -NTFS 3G √
   -Network
      -intel pro/100 √
      -broadcom 440 x √

So there you are, just click "done" and install it. I suggest that you familiarized yourself with the OSX environment and savor every moment to understand before you decide to install apps or anything (putting kext and installing stuffs). The original thread also included a link to the apps for the wifi in "iwidarwin". In my case, it fails and you can see the post I wrote here, you can try it and if it fails too you can experiment by installing with the use of an alternative distros. enjoy!

How to make MS-DOS bootable flash drive

Though mainly the boot disk are used to access a system that doesn't have any OS installed, there are many reason you want to boot from a disk boot. There are those who just having having troubles with their OS. The main reason why we use a boot disk to format our hard disk is to have a clean drive before any OS installation. Below is the step by step instruction to have a flash dish boot disk. The MS-DOS boots from start up using a flash disk drive, to do this you need;
  1. flash dish, a
  2. rufus utility, from here
  3. a bootdisk iso (i'll be using a Windows 98 bootdisk, win98_bootdisk.iso)

After you download everything you need all you have to do is open rufus utility. click "the disk icon" to the right of "Create a bootable disk using:", and selected the win98_bootdisk.iso you have downloaded. Click "start" once and then you have a bootdish flash drive.

plug it in, make sure you boot from USB flash disk using the BIOS option. and youre there you just type
"format drive /C:" and there's to it
